If you’re a newly licensed real estate agent in Texas, your journey doesn’t stop after passing the licensing exam. The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires all sales agents to complete an additional 98 hours of Sales Agent Apprentice Education (SAE) before renewing their license for the first time.
This post-licensing education is designed to build on your foundational knowledge and help you grow into a more confident, skilled, and legally compliant real estate professional.
What is the 98-Hour SAE?
The SAE is a set of continuing education courses that must be completed within the first two years of receiving your license. It’s a one-time requirement meant to enhance your understanding of real estate concepts, legal responsibilities, and client service skills.

In-Person Classes – Great for those who prefer a traditional classroom setting.

Proctoring Requirement
TREC requires that final exams for SAE courses be proctored. Many providers now offer online proctoring, making it easier to meet the requirement from home, as long as you have a stable internet connection and webcam.
Don’t Miss the Deadline
To avoid license expiration or penalties:
-
Finish all SAE requirements before your license renewal date.
-
If you’re a designated supervisor for your brokerage, you’ll also need to complete the 6-Hour Broker Responsibility Course.
Why It Matters
Completing your SAE not only keeps you compliant but also boosts your skills and confidence as a real estate professional. It’s an investment in your career, giving you the tools to serve clients better and build long-term success in the Texas real estate market.
