For agents with an expired or inactive Texas license
Your license isn’t gone.
But the clock is running.
Most lapsed agents are one course away from working again — and most have no idea what their deadline actually is. Texas gives you six months. After that, the path back is very different.
Enter your expiration date below and find out exactly where you stand.
Check your status
Don’t know your date? Look yourself up free on TREC’s License Holder Search — search your name, and your status and expiration date are right there. Or call us and we’ll find it for you.
The three ways this goes
Whatever the calculator told you, here’s the full picture.
Still inside the window
Expired less than six months ago
You do not have to retake anything. You need your 18 hours of continuing education — Legal Update I, Legal Update II, three hours of contracts, and seven elective hours — plus your renewal filing with TREC.
Your license comes back on inactive status, and a sponsoring broker files to put you active.
The catch: the window closes six months to the day from your expiration date. There is no extension after that.

Your license can’t be renewed. Under TREC rules you’ll complete the full 180 hours of qualifying education again and retake the state exam.
Here’s what nobody tells you: you are not a beginner. You’ve sat at closing tables. Our program is built on real transactions rather than textbook theory, and people coming back move through it differently than people starting cold.
One upside: the business has changed since you left. You’ll come back current instead of rusty.

Inactive, but current
Best position of the three. Finish your CE before your renewal date and file through TREC’s REALM portal to return to active status. As a sales agent you’ll also need a sponsoring broker to file for you.
Don’t wait. Letting it lapse turns a routine renewal into the situation in the other two columns.
Get my CE doneIt’s almost never because you quit
A health issue. A move. A parent who needed you. A job that paid the bills while the market was slow. Or the simplest one of all — the renewal date arrived before the CE hours did, and then a few months went by.
None of that means you weren’t good at this. It means you were busy being a person. The license is still yours to take back.
Why come back through us
- Evenings and weekends. You have a job right now. We built the schedule around that, not around ours.
- Houston in person, or live online from anywhere in Texas. DFW students attend the same class from home, same instructor, same room.
- Taught by a broker, not a video. Fifteen years licensed as a broker, an 85-agent brokerage built from scratch, regional broker at eXp Realty.
- You leave with a business, not just a license. The post-exam business suite is included, not an upsell.
- We’ll introduce you to sponsoring brokers. Coming back is easier when someone makes the call for you.
Tell us where you are

Everything about your license is public and free to look up. You don’t need us, or anyone else, to tell you where you stand.

- TREC REALM PortalWhere you actually renew, pay, and request a return to active status. You’ll need an account linked to your license.
